Understand how the Biodigester works
Wastewater enters through the inlet pipe (1) and is carried by the internal piping to the bottom of the Biodigester (2), where it follows an upflow.
By gravity, the solid part separates from the liquid and a layer of active sludge forms, where anaerobic microorganisms actively decompose the organic matter, which settles at the conical bottom as stabilized sludge.
The liquid seeps into the internal basket (3), in contact with the plastic filter media, which work as a three-phase separator and host bacteria that make the effluent cleaner.
The effluent is collected by the internal channel and released through the outlet pipe (4) to the proper destination (soakaway pit, infiltration trench, drainage channel, etc.).
The sludge (5) accumulates at the conical bottom and should be removed to the drying box roughly every 12 months, by opening the valve (6) and releasing the sludge through the pipe (7).

What is a Biodigester?
The Biodigester is a sustainable and efficient solution for domestic wastewater treatment. It combines the functions of an upflow anaerobic reactor (UASB), an anaerobic filter and an Imhoff tank in a compact, functional system that enables domestic wastewater treatment in places not served by conventional networks. It also has a sludge removal system based on hydraulic head difference, which allows simple and safe maintenance with no need for equipment, pumps, septic pumping trucks or specialized labor.

What are the installation rules for a Biodigester?
Installation must follow local regulations and the instructions in the Aquarela Eco Installation Manual. We recommend having the work done by a qualified professional to ensure the system performs efficiently.
How is the Biodigester cleaned?
Cleaning is simple: sludge should be removed every 12 months, which may vary according to usage habits. This cleaning should preferably be done during dry periods. See the Installation Manual for detailed instructions.
What is the role of the drying box in the Biodigester?
The drying box is essential for the safe and practical removal of the sludge. The stabilized sludge rests there so it can drain and fully mineralize, avoiding any risk of contaminating people, pets and the environment. After it is removed from the Biodigester, the sludge should remain in the box for another year before being taken out.
What type of wastewater is the Biodigester recommended for?
