What is a polyethylene cistern?
A polyethylene cistern is a reservoir made of plastic material (polyethylene) used to store rainwater or water from other sources. It is a practical and durable water storage solution.
What are the advantages of polyethylene cisterns?
- Lightweight: easy to transport and install.
- Durability: resistant to corrosion and weathering.
- Versatility: stores drinking water, rainwater or water for irrigation.
- Low maintenance: needs no special care beyond periodic cleaning.
How is a polyethylene cistern installed?
Installation must follow local regulations and the instructions in the Aquarela Eco Installation Manual. We recommend having the work done by a qualified professional to ensure the system performs efficiently.
Are polyethylene cisterns safe for storing drinking water?
Yes. Aquarela Eco cisterns are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and comply with Brazilian technical standards for drinking water, such as those issued by ABNT.
How is a polyethylene cistern cleaned?
It should be cleaned periodically: empty the cistern, remove debris and wash the inner walls with water and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals.
What is the service life of a polyethylene cistern?
Aquarela Eco cisterns are made of a plastic material that takes hundreds of years to decompose. The stated service life is 15 to 20 years, but with proper care it can last much longer.
Are polyethylene cisterns resistant to sun and heat?
Yes, they are designed to withstand sun exposure and temperature changes. Even so, we recommend installing them in shaded areas or using covers to extend their service life.
Can a polyethylene cistern be buried?
Aquarela Eco cisterns are designed to be buried. Check the specifications in our manual before installing.
What is the difference between the cistern and an Aquarela Eco storage tank?
Unlike cisterns, tanks were not designed to bear soil loads on their walls. To use tanks underground, they must be housed so that they are protected from soil and groundwater pressure.
Can it be installed where the water table is shallow, in flooded areas or near watercourses?
We do not recommend installation in these situations. Construction work can make it feasible, but it is generally more complex and costly, and supervision by a responsible professional is essential.
How do I work out the cistern size I need?
The calculation depends on daily water consumption and how often it rains in the region. A professional can help size the cistern to your needs, or you can contact our specialists.
